Facebook တည္ေထာင္သူ Mark Zuckerberg မွေန၍ Facebook ကို မတ္လ ၂၀၁၂ မွာ ပိတ္ရေတာ႔မွာၿဖစ္ေႀကာင္းနဲ႔ Facebook ကို လုပ္ေနရတာ သူ႔အတြက္ အရမ္းစိတ္ဖိစီးမွဳ မ်ားေနပါတယ္လို႔ ေၿပာသြားပါတယ္။

"Facebook က ထိန္းလို႔မရေတာ႔ပါဘူး" လို႔ Palo Alto ရံုးမွာ က်င္းပတ႔ဲ သတင္းစာရွင္းလင္းပြဲမွာ Zuckerberg မွတဆင္႔ေၿပာႀကားခဲ႔ပါတယ္။ "ေနာက္ၿပီးေတာ႔ Facebook ကို လုပ္ေနရတာ ကၽြန္ေတာ္႔အတြက္ စိတ္ဖိစီးမွဳ အရမ္းမ်ားေနတာေႀကာင္႔ ကၽြန္ေတာ္ ဒီဟာကို အဆံုးသတ္ဖို႔ လိုအပ္ေနပါၿပီ။

Zuckerberg ဟာ Facebook ကို ၂၀၁၂ မတ္လ ၁၅ရက္ေန႔တြင္ အသံုးၿပဳသူမ်ား အေနႏွင္႔ Facebook အေကာင္႔မ်ားကို ပိတ္မည္ၿဖစ္ေႀကာင္း ေႀကညာခဲ႔ပါတယ္။ အသံုးၿပဳသူမ်ားအေနနဲ႔ ဒီႏွစ္မွာ Facebook မရွိဘဲ ေနႏိုင္ေအာင္ ေနေပးႀကပါလို႔လဲ ေၿပာသြားပါတယ္။

"မတ္လ ၁၅ ရက္ေန႔ ၂၀၁၂ ခုႏွစ္ ေနာက္ပိုင္း မွာ Website ႀကီး တစ္ခုလံုး ပိတ္လိုက္ပါေတာ႔မယ္" လို႔ တာ၀န္ရွိသူတစ္ဦးမွ ေၿပာႀကားခဲ႔ပါတယ္။ "အဲဒါေႀကာင္႔ သင္႔ရဲ႕ ဓါတ္ပံုေတြကို လိုခ်င္ေသးရင္ Facebook ေပၚက ၿပန္ယူထားဖို႔လည္း အႀကံေပးခ်င္ပါတယ္။ Facebook ပိတ္လိုက္ရင္ ဓါတ္ပံုေတြ ၿပန္ရေတာ႔မွာ မဟုတ္ပါဘူး" လို႔လည္း ေၿပာသြားခဲ႔ပါေသးတယ္။

Zuckerberg ကေတာ႔ Facebook ကိုပိတ္ဖို႔ ဆံုးၿဖတ္ရတာဟာ သူ႔အတြက္ အရမ္းကို ခက္ခဲေႀကာင္းနဲ႔ သူ ပိတ္လိုက္တဲ႔အတြက္ အသံုးၿပဳသူေတြကို ၀မ္းမနည္းေစခ်င္ပါဘူးလို႔လဲ ေမွ်ာ္လင္႔ေႀကာင္း ေၿပာသြားပါေသးတယ္။

Backgrounder:
The Burmese military government is holding elections on Nov. 7, 2010 in the absence of international monitoring and media freedom while holding more than 2,200 political prisoners in bar and continuing human rights violations unabated. For the junta, holding the elections is the final step of their ‘roadmap’ for so-called a ‘disciplined democracy.’

However, it is not a solution for protracted political stalemate that requires ‘dialogue’ and ‘national reconciliation’– but rather an attempt to cement the military rule that is already the fundamental problem of social, political and economic stigmas in Burma.

The 2008 Constitution that the military carefully engineered for 15 years will be ratified by parliament after the elections while ensuring human rights violators ‘immunity.’ Moreover, the Army will play a leading role in Burma’s politics by reserving a quarter of parliamentary seats and key cabinet portfolios such as Home, Defense and Border Areas, as well as a control over a powerful decision-making body – ‘National Security and Defense Council.’

It is now much clearer that the military-backed political party ‘USDP’ and its affiliates are set to win in the elections by means of intimations, bribery and fraud. Therefore, the current election in Burma is not only not meeting the lowest level of international standards, but also is a process of legalizing the military rule that is against the democratic principles and the desire of Burmese people in the establishment of a free, democratic and prosperous country.

The Role of Burmese expatriates

As responsible Democracy activists living overseas we need to be especially aware of the fact that we have the undeniable duty to support the activists struggling inside the country. As individuals or as a whole group we enjoy unrestricted freedom under the sun.
Despite such freedom, an ailment called divisiveness plagues the democratic groups that are based overseas. Because of it actions and plans that needed to be carried out in a cooperative fashion by all the groups never achieved a momentum needed to create change in Burma. What needs to be done today to help the movement inside Burma is for us living overseas to become more united and to fight towards a single identifiable goal.

It is time for us to do a merciless self-examination. What most of us will find is that we lack self-reliance and we have no confidence in our own people to achieve their goal. It has been going on long enough that we have always demanded others to help us do what we need to do for ourselves. If we stop and think we pretty soon realize that there are not many things in life that gets done efficiently/timely or even at all if we just rely on others to do things for us. We cannot afford to wait any longer for the US or the International community to intervene on our behalf. The main driving force lies waiting untapped inside the country in the form of people’s power. We need to establish the fact amongst us that People’s power is the only path towards democracy. After establishing such foundation we then need to plan to how to best use such power. We need to admit to ourselves that just by sitting around nothing will get done.
We all have witnessed the selfless sacrifices that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi had made over the years for the country. As responsible persons, there is an urgent need to realize that we can not afford any longer to wait for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to bring us Democracy right to our doorsteps but instead each and everyone of us have the obligation to do our best to achieve the ultimate goal of Democracy in Burma.
