Ottawa, June 18, 2010
The 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner and Honorary Canadian Citizen Aung San Suu Kyi could not celebrate her 65th birthday due to an extended detention imposed by the reclusive military regime in Burma. She has been under house arrest for 15 years now. The latest arrest started in May, 2003 after her conveys were ambushed in which a few dozens of her supporters killed.
This Saturday June 19 is her 65th birthday!
Her supporters across Canada and around the world are holding various activities to mark her birthday on this occasion. We Burma supporters and activists in Ottawa are also holding a protest and a prayer this Saturday to mark her birthday. Please join with us in praying for her health and calling for her unconditional and immediate release.
